The flourishing costume jewelry industry in Rhode Island after WWII (when metal was once again available) needed a lot of glass and the Japanese needed jobs. So, they started producing stone look alikes in glass for the jewelry. This excellent reproduction of turquoise is a lovely color with small hints of white and gold veining. As turquoise becomes more scarce, I value these lovely glass pieces even more. The Japanese artistic sensibility is that of delicacy, and this rendering of turquoise is well done. The centerpiece is bezel set in a hand-made sterling silver box clasp. The clasp is 28 mm from ring to ring, 18 mm wide and 10 mm high. The top is slightly domed, but not so much that you would notice.
