Specification

This large piece was purchased by Elsie in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. It is most likely a piece from the early 19th century. Although silver in color, it is an amalgam of metals. The piece is made entirely by hand. It has two pieces of carnelian color glass set on the top triangle and another on the bottom rhombus. The piece is six inches from the top of the loop to the bottom of the piece. It is three inches at the widest point. Jewelry was highly symbolic for the Turkomen people. Pieces often represented protection, happiness, or fertility. Triangles and Rhombus' were of particular i import the triagne symbolizing the mountain believed to be the genesis of creation and the rhombus symbolizing ancestors.
